Sarenrae Wallpaper by WhoDrewThis Sarenrae Wallpaper by WhoDrewThis
Still a work in progress; the art for this is part of a 3-D mini I'm working on, so her hair, wings, and the remainder of her gown thing haven't been completed yet. However, it's too cool of a piece to keep to myself.

Copic 0.3 Multiliner pen on Strathmore 400 Series bristol; edited and colored via the immortal Photoshop CS4. Based off the work of Wayne Reynolds; Sarenrae is (C) Paizo Publishing.

1440 X 900 resolution; if you really need it in another size, e-mail me or send me a note on dA and I'll see what I can whip up.

Always happy to provide more! And I, too, have a soft spot for Sarenrae. I played a lot of scimitar-wielding sun-worshipers in the early days of Pathfinder. Far too many to readily admit to, at least. :D

It's odd, in a way, since most of my characters are barely religious as it is. Something about her just screamed "character possibilities!" to me.

Sadly, no. Though now that I've got a tablet, I'm seriously considering a fancier version.

If you're lucky you might get some fiery lovin'.

Thanks! I'm really surprised how well it came out, actually. The colors were one of the harder parts; that and the texture on the armor (I ended up using a weird bubble stamp tool that comes with Photoshop and setting it to a high transparency).

Now that I've finally come up with a cool way to illustrate fire, though, I'm kinda putting it on EVERYTHING. I LOVE drawing fire. :D

P.S. Ah, sweet, sweet photoshop!

I'm definitely getting decent on the fire front. Water, well... if it's, like, a lake or a pool or something, I'm alright, and if it's a non-water liquid exploding out of, say, a guy's skull, I can do that. But semi-realistic waterfalls and geysers and stuff? Psh. I'm bad at those.

I need to practice, though, 'cuz I loves me an adventure taking place on, below, or behind a waterfall like nobody else. :D

Thanks! She's my pride and joy. I've got a cut out version living on the side of my TV, right next to the screen. It looks like she's swooping down to smite our decadent, Western programming. :P

God, CS 4 is awesome. I swear it can read my mind and automatically works with me to make my art not suck as much. It's a potent tool, and I owe it my soul.

Too bad the "CS" stands for "computerized Satan". :P

Hey, thanks! Somehow, I thought you'd enjoy it. :D

Truth be told, it's all Wayne Reynolds' doing. I mean, he's the one who made the badass original piece in the first place. I'm glad you like it, though, and hey, Paizo didn't get around to whipping up a Sarenrae wallpaper design themselves, so someone had to step up to the plate.

As a side note: I drew her big enough that if I were to print her out full-size, she's almost as big as my old rune giant mini; if I slapped the wings on her and add all the other little bits to the 3-D version, she'd end up even bigger. I might make one that big just for fun, but for the final diorama, I'll probably make her about half that size.

Heh. Though you might mention Iomedae. She's still on my list of back-burner projects, so there's a good chance she'll get done at some point in time. I've got a lot on the plate right now, but if I feel the need to do another side project, I'll try giving her a shot.

Thanks! And as soon as it's done, I'll take some snapshots. Might even bring it with me to PaizoCon. :D

Cool, I'll post up the photos. And I'm hoping Ben and I will be able to write up some blog entries while we're at PaizoCon; between that and the photos, it'll almost be like being there. :P

I hope to have all the major gods done some time, and since Iomedae's easier to illustrate than some of the others, she'll probably get done sooner rather than later. :D

Gods can do that to you... It's within their power, I think :D I have the same strange fascination with Tempus in the Frogotten (no wait, that's not right ;) )Realms. There are few things better than to charge into battle shouting: "tempooooos!" and having your fellow gamers shaking their heads in embaressment, quitly whispering: "not again, we're in a frigging city... and those are regularr merchants..." or some such... ;)

Hah! TEMPUS! That brings back memories. :D

Tempus is great because he gives you an excuse to essentially play Conan. Y'know, weild a big two-handed weapon, not trust the city-folk and their evil magics, be amazed at simple things ("ARGH! You weild the sun in your hand, vile sorcerer!" "Um, it's a mirror, dude, and the sun's reflecting off of it."). It's just too much fun to ignore.

I had a soft spot for Gond (the guy that brought guns to the Realms; gotta love 'em). A lot of my characters were gun-wielding clerics of Gond (and one wizard). In Greyhawk I leaned heavily towards Wee Jas for some reason (probably years of "Cyric as death god" made me enjoy someone who was pretty much the opposite of his portfolio, except for the death part). Occasionally some other deity would catch my eye, but generally I play servants of one deity until I suffer from burn-out, then make an agnostic or some weird cultist, and then I'm back on track again.

I once played this half-orc fighter/cleric-type. Yeah, you guessed it, a follower of Tempus. This was back in the good old 2nd ed. days... And guess what his name was? If you guessed Gworeth, you just won yourself a prize... ;) Oh yeah, I'm still dreaming of reviving him. We still talk about reenergize that campaign, yup, yup, yup... them good ol' days :) We crushed every opposition there was. We were infamous for our last stands :D Argh! I'm winding myself up on a road down memory lane... :D

Thanks mate! It was a fun piece to do, and the style is a bit different from what I usually do, but trying to put in lots of detail in a limited space is challenging, and I can only shake my head in awe that you cram so much detail into what? 2" 'tall' drawings.. :) My Gworeth character is about 2,5" - 3"... dang! Well, practice makes perfect I s';pose.. ;)

Well, since I started drawing them at their actual size, I've actually gotten bigger. :P

But yeah, they are tiny compared to most art. Until you scan them at 600 DPI. Then they're big enough to make all sorts of stuff out of.

As a side note, I don't always draw that small; the Sarenrae piece is about 6 inces tall before resizing.

Practice does indeed make perfect, though. Or close to it. :P

Actually, I'm aiming on doing a diorama representation of the Gods & Magic cover, but I could do Urgathoa instead, if that's what you guys want. It'd certainly save me the time of creating a 3-D Rovagug. :P

I've got some art to do for Ogre tomorrow morning, then I'll try to squeeze in some more Sarenrae art stuff (I still need wings, the fire trailing off the back of her head, and some robe stuff trailing off of her before she's done). Then comes the hard decision: what size to print her at? I printed a test version that's about 11 feet tall at miniatures scale, but I kinda want to go bigger. :D

Anyway, glad you like it!

I thought that might be the case. Yeah, I'll give it a try; Rovagug's going to be very difficult to plan out and build in 3-D, but if he works out, the end result will be awesome.
